This photographic series uses self portraiture to explore Black identity, Indigenous South African culture and the politics of representation. The work centres dark skin as a visual and political presence, challenging historical narratives that have marginalised Blackness and Indigenous beauty.
Traditional attire from multiple Indigenous South African cultures is used as a living visual language. Each image functions as a cultural archive, presenting dress, adornment and posture as acts of reclamation and celebration.
This body of work speaks to contemporary African photography, decolonial visual practice and the intersection of identity, culture and beauty.
