Art Textiles

This collection presents textile artworks that explore leadership, memory and cultural representation within Indigenous South African communities. The works portray figures conceptualised as kings, celebrating symbolic leadership and cultural dignity across diverse traditions.
While not all cultures historically centre singular kingship, this work uses the figure of the king as a visual tool to honour strength, lineage and collective identity. Pattern, colour and surface act as visual languages that restore visibility, pride and presence to Indigenous cultures.
The collection speaks to contemporary African textile art, cultural representation and decolonial visual storytelling.
